A weekend of great potential

REVIEW: Karl Reindler Racing, 2012 ITM 400
V8 Supercars Rnd#5/6 (April 20-22), Hamilton, NZ

After a relaxing Easter 'break' which saw a fleeting visit to Spain, Fair Dinkum Sheds Racing's Karl Reindler is more than ready for the third round of the V8 Supercar Championship Series this weekend at Hamilton in New Zealand, in what he admits is a 'homecoming' of sorts.

"My Dad was born in New Zealand and actually went to school in Hamilton," Karl confirmed," and I regularly spend time in NZ with family, it's one of my favourite parts of the world, so it's a bit like coming home.."

This weekend's event will add more frequent flyer miles to Reindler's quota this year after a quick visit over Easter to be with his partner - fellow West Australian and Olympic sailor Elise Rechichi - who was competing in a Regatta in Spain in preparation for the London Olympics.

"It was great to get across and support Elise and the team as they prepare for the 2012 Olympics in London later in the year. She did really well, and their 470 class team were in front after the first day, but the conditions dropped them back to fourth at the close of the competition, but they'll be in London, and I'm sure Elise will be working hard to add another Olympic Gold to the medal she won in China."

For Reindler though the focus is on the Hamilton event, and capitalising on the success that both he and Kelly Racing enjoyed in 2011.

"I like street races, especially technically challenging grippy circuits like Hamilton that reward your fitness. It's great too to be a part of a team that excelled there last year with Rick taking Kelly Racing's maiden victory, with both he and Todd qualifying on the front row for the second race. Murph [Greg Murphy] too always 'steps up' in front of the home crowd, so I'll have plenty of motivation to draw from. It will also be nice to race in front of family too, so I'm really looking forward to it.

"I had a good run there last year, so it's a pity in a way that Hamilton will be off the calendar for 2013, because it really is a circuit that I enjoy racing on.

"The Fair Dinkum Sheds Racing crew too have been working non-stop since Tassie and as a group we're making gains all the time, so going to a circuit where there's some solid history for both the team and I, gives us great confidence. We've been steadily moving forward with our program and ticking off the boxes, so I see no reason why things won't fall into place for us this weekend."
